“House” season finale news: Carl Reiner (pictured) will guest star in “Both Sides Now,” which focuses on a man (Ashton Holmes of “A History of Violence”) whose left brain and right brain operate independently, which means he lives with two different personalities and has no control over his actions, according to a Fox source.
This makes diagnosing him doubly challenging, as the two sides of his brain struggle for dominance and it becomes increasingly difficult for House and his team to figure out the problem. As a result, the team comes up with some “alternative methods” to get him to cooperate.
In the meantime, Cuddy also must find an unusual approach to convince House to complete his clinic hours, which is where Reiner’s character comes in. He plays a clinic patient who gets House’s attention.
The season finale airs May 11.

I adore Carl Reiner. There. I said it. What are you going to do about it? No, seriously, if there’s another actor/writer/director/producer in show business who’s made me laugh more than Mr. Reiner, I can’t think of him/her right now. He’s been one of Hollywood’s prime time jewels for six decades. So, the news that Carl Reiner is guesting on the House season finale makes me very, very happy.
According to the House powers that be, Mr. Reiner will be a clinic patient at Princeton Plainsboro, and his interaction is slated to be with Dr. Cuddy. Good for Lisa Edelstein!
Of course, I’m sort of hoping that Dr. House gets involved somehow, because when it comes to giving as good as he gets, a Reiner character could be a formidable foe to Greg House. Imagine, just for fun, Alan Brady is the character that comes looking for some medical assistance.
The last time Carl Reiner’s Dick Van Dyke Show alter ego appeared on a TV show was NBC’s Mad About You. That star turn resulted in Carl winning his ninth Emmy. It was also a damn funny episode.
Having just seen House creator David Shore on the Fox Movie Channel’s Life After Film School – in which he revealed that any expectations that the character of House will change or evolve over time are completely unrealistic (his point was that in TV, the main characters don’t change, it’s the guest stars that do) – I have total faith in whatever he comes up with for Carl Reiner.
